About two weeks ago while riding to work,my clutch cable broke-just before entering the highway.I was able to get back to the house to get my truck.By the time I got on the highway, turns out there was a four car accident that took out all three lanes.Based on the time and how far the traffic was backed up,I figured that I definetly could have been involved in that accident. So I have to ask myself if this happened for a reason or was it coincidence. And if and what forces might have been involved. more...

Was it God? Was it my deceased father? Aliens? Probaly not an alien.Im sure it wasnt that damn good luck email that I didnt forward to ten people. Makes one think...and wonder. less...
slipping the gear from one to another can be done w/wo a clutch if the motor and tranny are running the same speed. stopping or starting w/o the clutch, next to impossible. if you're gentle and moving you can keep going until you have to come to a complete stop. i had a 77 electroglide w/buckhorn handlebars and she ate clutch cables regularly. safe riding

So, how'd you get home with a severed clutch cable? That's the kind of thing I would be interested in.

Eye. There is a piece you can buy that replaces the pivot at the hand grip. It pinches the cable with a bolt and will make a temporary fix for a broken cable. Most cables snap at the hand grip because that is the spot that gets the most wear. Only costs about $5.00 cheap insurance.
I keep one in my tool box on my 66 just in case. I run a mouse trap on my 66 but if the cable breaks it can be awkward to reach down and pull that especially in heavy traffic. less...
Well when the cable broke-it seemed to pop at the grip-it was still in gear. The engine bogged down and off.So I had to start it in gear,so the whole bike was jerking till it started. Then I drove it home in what I think was third gear. Ive heard that you can shift a bike,or car for that matter, with out clutching..but why take a chance and do more damamge.

Well some will say coincidence, but I believe there are no coincidences and that everything happens for a reason. So yes a guardian angel could have made sure that you we're not there at the time... But, maybe you should be asking..why? ...you were more...

But, maybe you should be asking..why? ...you were not there.. what "purpose"... are you to be doing?...and how did you get hmn?...."sea turtles...mate?"...lol less...
The smartest of men, throughout history have pondered that very same question. A coincidence, possibly, but as you look into the sky around you, watch life unfold around you, how can you not appreciate that something is directing thinks. No, I don't believe it is Chaos Theory or any other thinly worded proposition put forward by our leading scientist/agnostics. Man is really so puny in comparison to the cosmos and the physical world around him. His ego far outreaches his actual abilities. Just a big rock from space or a nasty microbe can wipe us all off this third rock from the sun. Rest assured that in the vast pattern of life it was not your destiny to partipate in that collison. Clutch cables just don't snap like that as a rule of thumb. They give indications that they are going long before they actually go. So, bro, you had a angel looking out for you that day. Its really the best and most comforting reason the fragile human mind can produce that fits all the facts. Smile and thank the lady! Appreciation is always appreciated! less...
Things just happen. No reason they just happen.
Did you ever think that if you had been on that highway the other drivers would have also been in different circumstances and the accident never would of happened.
So its your fault those cars crashed.
Thanks for screwing up my commute.
Just one of those things. But we must not think ourselves more special than others. As one person said Many people who were "saved" by cars not starting, missing the tube, getting/not getting that extra cup of coffee, being stopped for a chat which prevented then from being in the Twin Towers on 9/11 perceived it or was decided by others that they were "divinely" saved. The only problem with that is what does it say about the 3000 others who were not divinely blessed. Does n more...

Makes him look sick and that He has the trigger of the Roulette Bullet at our heads not terrorists.
I think there is luck and interventions. But if you are given your life back for a minute. What are you going to do with it next - or will it not change and remain the same?
I think one person who was saved went back and stole. So what does that say?
Luck? Providence? Sod's Law? Murphy's Luck? Doesn't make much sense either way unless it changes your life or others.
Glad your still with us. Now what is the plan for the rest of your life?
Maybe he saved you so you wont see hom now and have time to be in a better position.
I believe you were being watched over.
Something unexplained caused a diversion
to keep you out of harms way.
Who or what, I can not tell you.
It very well may have been a Guardian Angel.
Things such ss your situation happen for a reason.
That's how I see it.
I'm glad you got diverted.
